Focus Outlook Farmers Market

Some days – especially when I spend too much time online – the world seems to be truly going to Hell in a handbasket.

Some days I go to a vibrant, happy farmer’s market and I realize the world ain’t as bad as I thought.

It’s so easy to forget how much my focus influences my outlook.

And my focus is (almost always) 100% under my control.

Also, I need to get outside more. 😉

Mark, I know you’ve probably heard this one before. And since it relates to something I recently read in another blog post, I thought it was worth sharing. It’s a brief story that provides a great metaphor about “perspective”. As the story goes, there was a wise old man sitting at a fork in the road. One road continued on and the other road led into town. A traveler stopped by and asked the wise man, “What’s it like in town?” The wise man answered the question with his own question and asked, “What was it like in the town you just came from?” The traveler only had negative things to say, like the weather wasn’t so good, the people were nasty, etc. To which the wise man said, “Then you won’t like this town because it’s about the same.” Another traveler stopped to ask the same question, to which the wise old man answered with the same question, “What was the town like that you just came from?” This time the traveler had nothing but positive things to say. And the wise old man responded, “Then I think you’ll like this one too because it’s about the same.”

I think we all sometimes need to be reminded of this…
